An architect is a very important person and you want to talk to them if you are going to have a new office building or perhaps if you’re contemplating about creating your new home.
That being said, you can either get them from well-established architecture firms in Malaysia or you can hire someone on private practice.
Before you hire an architect, though, you need to know your specifications first. How much space are you going to need? What is the building’s main purpose? How much money will you spend on the project? Where will the building be located? Are you planning to do some of the work until the project is completed?
After answering those questions, now will be the perfect time for you to find an architect. Read on to find out some useful tips.
Create a Shortlist
The first thing that you need to do would be to create a shortlist of potential architects that you can hire. Make sure that the ones that you’ve selected would be those that are in line with the requirements that you’ve set forth (by answering the questions above).
Next, if you are in America, make sure that the architect is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) or other similar organizations in your country.
Membership in such groups would mean that the architect knows the standards and the professional code of ethics that they would need when they work for you.
Do an Initial Interview
Once you’re done creating your shortlist, the next part of the process would be to have a one-on-one conversation with your potential architect. Do not worry, you do not have to be face-to-face when you talk as a Skype call would do just fine.
First, you want to highlight the things that you want to do in your building. Then, the people from the architecture firm will tell you that they have the experience and the expertise to make things happen. If they will say that you are better off with another person or firm, ask if they can provide recommendations.
Assess the Chemistry
It is critical during the interview stage that you talk well with your potential architect. That is because you are going to work with them for a very long time, so it would be great if you can work with someone you can feel comfortable with.
During the interview, that will also present you with the opportunity to find out more about their work experience and expertise. Ask questions about what buildings they have designed before, their work principles, and other pertinent information that you think will help you know more about the person.
Making the Cut
Once the chemistry and the experience have been established, it is now time for you to make the decision. To help you narrow down your choices even further, ask the potential worker about other services they might provide.
Typically, the architect will be able to design the schematics, create a blueprint, take care of the design development, among other basic stuff, but ask them what they can offer more that will help the project become more streamlined.
Also, just make sure that your requirements are in line with the budget that you’ve set forth before the start of the project.
