The Evolution of Website Design: A Short Background

The world wide web is rapidly changing and progressing. This means that websites, as well as social media networks, now have deeper roles in our modern society. Even the simplest web design styles have evolved dramatically. If you you want to establish a website design malaysia company.

The Very Beginning

The early 1990s welcomed the birth of HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language. At this stage in web history, the websites were very basic, with text-heavy pages, vertical structures and few graphics.

Using Tables

During the mid 1990s, website designers have become more involved with website development. They started to utilize GUI, or graphical user interface, and incorporated icons and images in web pages.

When they realized that the internet can serve as an effective means for communication, web designers decided to use well-structured tables for arranging graphics and text.  However, the code required to create tables were quite complicated. More convenient approaches were developed later on.

Flash Designs

Flash was also developed in the 1990s. It’s a reliable software platform designed to include video, music and animated features to websites, allowing more dynamic visual experiences. This software gives professionals more freedom to create interactive websites.

CSS and HTML

Flash didn’t live up to certain expectations, but it changed how websites were used and designed. After a few years, social media emerged, and required more flexibility. This eventually led to the birth of CSS, or cascading style sheets. People used CSS to define several styles, without coding every element individually.

Flat Design

In 2010, responsive website design was developed by Ethan Marcotte. This type of design introduced a new way of utilizing CSS and HTML. Its main idea? Making websites adapt and respond to various display environments.

Responsive layouts eventually led to another design trend—flat design. This specific trend embraced visually appealing, effective minimalist two-dimensional styles. It’s favors functionality over ornamental elements.

At present, flat design is still being used.
